It has a light side and dark side, and binds things together... wait, that's the wrong franchise! [Aug. 13th, 2009|07:15 am]

This had me laughing very hard this morning.  This is a publicity still for the STAR TREK movie...

Duct tape.

Well, now we know how Scotty was able to perform all those engineering miracles.

Hey, if it's good enough for NASA, it should be good enough for Starfleet, eh?  LOL

(FYI... no, this particular shot was not used in the final film... I checked.  But it IS in the original publicity photo.  Some gaffer goofed!)

John Scalzi brings on the awesome:

Have you ever noticed that the rhythmic cadance of Shatner's really lends itself to this sort of thing?

When Fandoms Collide: Mythbusters and Star Trek! [Jul. 10th, 2009|04:19 pm]

Grant Imahara announced on his Twitter feed that next season Mythbusters will test the feasibility of the cannon that Captain James T. Kirk built to defeat the Gorn in the original series Star Trek episode "Arena"!

If you don't know what I'm talking about, watch this:

Grant says that he's going to dress up in the blue "science" Trek shirts, and "Buster" (the Mythbusters crash test dummy) will be in a red shirt. :-)

Here's hoping they can convince Kari Byron to wear the mini-skirt with the go-go boots. *Yum*

Of course, now we're going to have a bunch of old-school Trekkies complaining that this isn't "cannon".

...

(Sorry... I'll go now...)

The BIG Chair... [Aug. 19th, 2008|11:23 am]

[mood | geeky]

Diamond Select Toys is going to be offering a full-sized replica of Kirk's Captain's Chair from the original Star Trek.  It will be a fully functional swivel chair, with working lights and buttons.

They're going to offer it in 2009, and the price will be somewhere between $1000 and $2000 dollars (I can't get any two sources to agree on pricing).

TrekMovie.com ran a photo of it...

The BIG Chair

I'm gonna have to start saving my pennies, I think.  *grin*

New Trek Photos! [Aug. 11th, 2008|10:54 am]

[mood | White and Nerdy]

On the heels of the four cast photos that Paramount released at ComicCon, they released four more, showing the remaining cast, at the Vegas Star Trek con this past weekend.

Don't really like the look of the guy playing Chekov, but I like the others.  Simon Pegg, especially, looks good as Scotty... I didn't even recognize him at first!  And Karl Urban as McCoy looks appropriately cranky.

Also, TrekMovie.com took the original four posters and, based on some leaks about the look of the costumes, colorized the original four case photos.  Nice stuff.

Yes, I know, I'm a geeky trekkie... but it was my first fandom.  You never forget your first.  ;-)

Perhaps I can find new ways to motivate them... with posters! [Aug. 7th, 2006|01:22 pm]

So, remember the MOTIVATIONAL POSTERS FOR GAMERS?

Now there's MOTIVATIONAL POSTERS FOR STAR TREK!

My favorite...

INGENUITY
Yes, it is perfectly reasonable that Kirk had the know-how to make the gunpowder and put together the bazooka to defeat the Gorn. That's why he's the goddamn Captain!

*grin*

I need to make up "MOTIVATIONAL POSTERS FOR GEEKS".  I really do.

OK, I know this is REALLY geeky, so feel free to skip if you want...

From an article on TREK TODAY:

Tim Russ To Direct Nichelle Nichols And Walter Koenig In Fan Film, along with at least 10 other Trek actors!

The team behind the Star Trek: New Voyages fan films announced this week they will be co-producing a feature-length miniseries starring close to a dozen actors from the official Star Trek series.

Entitled Star Trek: Of Gods And Men, the series will start shooting on the 12th of July under the direction of Tim Russ (Tuvok). Russ will also be appearing in the film as a young Tuvok, joining a whole range of established Trek actors such as Nichelle Nichols (Uhura), Walter Koenig (Pavel Chekov) and Alan Ruck (John Harriman). The story of the film will be set during the Enterprise-B era, as also featured in Star Trek: Generations.

In addition to the above actors, the film will feature Garrett Wang (Harry Kim), Chase Masterson (Leeta), Grace Lee Whitney (Janice Rand), Gary Graham (Soval) and Crystal Allen, who appeared in the Star Trek: Enterprise episode "Bound." The press release from the producing team did not reveal which of these actors will be reprising their actual roles from the Star Trek series, but did promise that in addition to the above actors, the miniseries will feature some "surprise guests."

The executive producer of Of Gods And Men is Sky Douglas Conway, who also produced the recent Trek-related projects "Lady Magdalene's" and "Roddenberry on Patrol". Conway wrote the script for the film together with DS9 alumni Jack Trevino and Ethan H. Calk. Finally, some of the behind-the-scenes crew will be made up of people who used to work on the Star Trek series, such as director of photography Doug Knapp.

OK, so this Conway guy is going to spend a METRIC F*CK-TON of money to bring in professionals to make his fan-film.  And he's never going to make his money back, unless he wants to be sued by CBS/Paramount.  As stated in THIS PRESS RELEASE from the "New Voyages" people:

"This is his (Conways's) project and we are along for what is sure to be a fun ride. NO MONEY is being made. We are not being paid and we are not charging for the use of our sets. We are still abiding by the guidelines given to us by Paramount more than two years ago.

"The fan films are a vital part of Star Trek and it's history. No other franchise on the planet can boast of such a dedicated and vocal fanbase! It is our dream that CBS/Paramount will someday license and support these Fan films. They already license fan fiction thru their Pocket Books division, this would be the next logical step! At any rate we are grateful to CBS/PARAMOUNT for 40 years of this enduring legacy called Star Trek. We here at New Voyages support and thank them."

Now, if only for MY project, I could get Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill!  But at this point, I'd settle for a place that I can shoot in front of my green screen for cheap (and by cheap, I mean "no money").
