I'd posted earlier today regarding the '80s Christmas song "Do They Know It's Christmas?" (As idiomagic commented, "No. No they don't. Africa is mostly Muslim.").

I commented back to her with this:

"I love the fact that you can tell PRECISELY what part was written by Bob Geldof, and which part was Midge Ure.

Geldof had the first half, that kind of meanders around and has no discernible melody whatsoever. It sounds like Bono after a 3-day bender.

Ure wrote the second part, that sounds like a Royal Air Force anthem... "Feed... The... WOOOOOORLD! Then we'll go bomb Ger-Man-Y!" LOL"

Yeah, my head goes strange places some days. But I just thought I'd share. :-)

SCIENTISTS HAVE DISCOVERED THE PLANET VULCAN!

OK, not quite... but they have discovered evidence of rocky worlds around the star Epsilon Eridani, which is often identified as the star that Spock's homeworld orbits. No evidence yet on that they may be inhabited, let alone if they have pointed ears and green blood. It was also the star system that Babylon 5 was supposed to be located (orbiting the third planet). So I guess this means that the Vulcans can help us fight the war against the Shadows... or... something.

(Yes, I know that the article is dated from October... I don't know how I missed this the first time!)

Gene Barry, the dapper and dashing actor best known for playing Dr. Clayton Forrester* in the 1953 George Pal film "War of the Worlds", and western hero Bat Masterson on television, has passed on at age 90.

WOTW was one of my favorite movies growing up (pre-Star Wars), and I really loved Barry's performance. He made being a scientist seem awesomely heroic (which, as we all know, it is!). He'll be missed.

Therefore, please, do NOT get me a Holiday Present this year, OK? I can't really afford to gift everyone back, and I'll feel really bad about that, OK? So, let's just all wish each other a happy holiday and leave it at that.

A whole new world... for DC Comics.

It looks like DC Comics plans to do with it's universe what Marvel did with the Ultimates line.

DC plans to unveil a "rebooted" DC Universe next year, starting with SUPERMAN: EARTH ONE (written by J. Michael Straczynski with artist Shane Davis) and BATMAN: EARTH ONE (by writer Geoff Johns and artist Gary Frank).

I like both the writers and the artists, and I thought that Ultimates was a freaking breath-of-fresh-air for Marvel, so I'm probably going to check this out.

Virgin Galactic unveils commercial spaceship

LOS ANGELES – A spacecraft designed to rocket wealthy tourists into space as early as 2011 was unveiled Monday in what backers of the venture hope will signal a new era in aviation history.

Of course, the one part of the article that worries me is this:

"NASA spent billions upon billions of dollars on space travel and has only managed to send 480 people," [Virgin Galactic founder Sir Richard] Branson said. "We're literally hoping to send thousands of people into space over the next couple of years. We want to make sure that we build a spaceship that is 100 percent safe."

One hundred percent safe, huh? :-\

tickly_girl came by to visit this weekend, and helped me with decorating my place for Christmas. So I have my yule tree up, decorated, and lit!

She also gifted me with some new ornaments and decorations:

She also got me this MARVELOUS decoration:
