Here's a video of Arizona state Senator Sylvia Allen (R) voicing support for opening up uranium mining in the state.
Sen Allen responds to those arguing against the measure by stating that the "Earth is 6,000 years old..."
Twice...
It reminds me of this XKCD comic. Except, of course, for the fact that it's not really funny. :-\ |

Okay so even if by some magical magic the earth _WAS_ only (i shudder to type this) 6,000 years old Then how the flying fuck does that make Uranium mining any safer than if the earth is 4.5 billion?! HOOOOOOOOOW? bad sicence aside, her argument makes no sense! grr. yes there were no enviromental laws 6,000 years ago when adam and eve aparently road dinosaurs through the garden of eden. Adam and Eve also werent mining radioactive materials to power their condo (or blow up their neighbors). Though i hear Snakes love yellow cake.

6013 years, assuming she's using the Ussher chronology. :)

Glad to be of service *bow*
Its scary how ignorant people who are elected to represent us are.
Scarier still to think that there are enough people who *aren't* frightened to put them there.
Yeah, I saw that. Some people really are THAT ignorant.
By the way, I LOVE YOUR ICON. Please, my I steal it? **wants**
Feel free, as that is what I did...
;-)
Well, technically, she's right. The Earth *HAS* been here 6,000 years. Of course, it's also been here 6,001 years, 6,002 years, 6,003 years, 7,003 years and 12,003 years.
And a couple more besides.
I saw it posted somewhere (sorry, forgot where) that this is the ultimate irony. It was the decay rate of uranium that helped date the earth as billions of years old.

They didn't have laws to protect the environment 6,000 years ago, but they didn't have cars, electricity, or aerosol cans either! | |
